Redskins sign CB Kevin Barnes

Kevin Barnes, a 6-foot, 187 lb cornerback from the University of Maryland and Washington’s 3rd round pick in the 2009 draft, signed a contract with the team today, though the terms were undisclosed. Barnes had 100 tackles, 6 interceptions and 15 pass deflections during his college career. Free agent DE Derek Walker was replaced to make room for Barnes on the active roster.

Washington still has not signed first round pick OLB/DE Brian Orakpo of Texas or DE Jeremy Jarmon, a 3rd rounder from Kentucky taken in this month’s supplemental draft.
UPDATE: Barnes’ contract is for 4 years and includes a $782,500 signing bonus, according to a report at Pro Football Talk.
In addition to DE Derek Walker being cut, the team has also released free agent WR Jaison Williams. [Wow, a new way of spelling Jason.] Both Walker and Williams were signed this past spring as free agents.
In honor of this, let’s revisit one of the best college football tackles of recent years, the crushing hit by Barnes on Cal TB Jahvid Best, which so shook up Best that he vomited on the field.
