NFL Draft moves to prime time and 3 days

The American sports public loves the NFL Draft. The 39 million people who watched the 2009 NFL Draft on ESPN or the NFL Network proves it. So does the amazing success of our NFL Mock Draft Database, the biggest and best of its kind anywhere. That being the case, the NFL decided, why limit the draft to only 2 days and why do it in the mid-afternoon, when tons of people are out running weekend chores?
Starting next year, the NFL Draft will be
expanded from 2 to 3 days and it will begin Thursday April 22, 2010 at 7.30 PM on the east coast. Only round one will be held the first night, while rounds 2-3 will be held on Friday night at 6.30 PM in the east. Rounds 4-7 will be held on at 10 AM on April 24.
This makes perfect sense to me. Like it or not [and I do like it], the NFL is a colossus, sweeping away everything before it — apart from impending labor trouble. When NFL games are held in prime time, they perform brilliantly, which is why we’re seeing more Thursday and Saturday night games than ever. Moving the first three rounds of the draft into prime viewing time is a no-brainer and will draw a huge audience. Why? It’s the NFL. It always draws a huge audience.
