Cabrera waived, finally!

The Washington Nationals have designated P Daniel Cabrera for assignment, meaning, once he clears waivers, he will become a free agent.

Acting general manager Mike Rizzo said lack of performance was the
reason Cabrera was let go. The Nationals most likely will pay the rest
of Cabrera’s $2.6 million salary.

“We felt that we needed to change the dynamic of the bullpen
– we decided to designated him for assignment,” Rizzo said. “You have
to put the best 25 players on the roster to give you a chance to win. I
looked beyond the contract. I looked at the execution of the
performance and it wasn’t up to par. I was tired of watching it. So I
felt we had to make a decision there. The decision was to designate him
for assignment and see if we could get a player who could performed
better than him.”

It’s about time.  Should have been long ago.  Cabrera consistently had control problems when pitching for the Baltimore Orioles the last few seasons.  I was not entirely sure what then GM Jim Bowden and now GM Mike Rizzo actually saw or hoped for ina nd from Cabrera.  They got what every one else expected.  Poor pitching, poor control, high walks, andan ERA over 5.50.  In fact, Cabera stats were a dismal 0-5 with a 5.85 ERA.

Congrats to Dunn — Congrats to Adam Dunn for collecting his 1000th career hti last night.

After he reached first, Dunn didn’t know what he had accomplished until
first-base coach Marquis Grissom gave him the good news.

“It’s not like it’s that significant of a number — like 3,000 — but
it’s still kind of a milestone and it’s pretty cool,” Dunn said. “I
think when you start getting to 1,500, 2,000 or 2,500, those are some
pretty good numbers.”

Hey Adam?  With the team, we celebrate even 10-0 career hits.  Difficult to acheive in DC.

Dunn hit homer number 15 last night in another humiliating loss, 6-1 to the Mets.
