Nats: Flores to the DL, Colome moves up a level

The Nats made some moves today, including sending to the minors a reliever who is bad even by the standards of this team.

The Washington Nationals today selected right-handed pitcher Jesus Colome and recalled catcher Josh Bard from Syracuse of the Triple-A International League, placed catcher Jesus Flores on the 15-Day Disabled List (retroactive May 10) with a right shoulder contusion and designated right-handed pitcher Logan Kensing for assignment.

Kensing was designated for assignment because he’s…awful. He made 6 appearances since the Nats got him in a trade with Florida on April 29 and in those 6 appearances his ERA is 18.00. If you’re new to baseball, that’s really bad.

Flores was having a pretty good year before being injured in a game against Arizona. Bard will take his spot on the roster for now.
Colome had a terrific Spring training and is obviously experienced in the Nats bullpen so his return is natural. There is no way he could do worse than most of the guys in that bullpen.

A sign of front office incompetence. Well, one sign of many.
So we trade a 24 year old we drafted two years ago that has pitched in minors last year and this year, has not posted an ERA over 3.00, could be tested in AA this season, solid reliever, but we trade him for Logan Kensing who had an ERA over 9.00. Two weeks later, we designate Kensing. Rizzo and whoever scouted Kensing should be fired. It is down right embarrassing.
