Court: 'Redskins' is OK

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet |

The Washington REDSKINS have won another Court battle to keep the mascot name, ‘Redskins’.

The appeals court backed a ruling last year by U.S. District Judge
Colleen Kollar-Kotelly that an activist had waited too long to
challenge the team’s trademarks.

Today’s decision by a three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals
for the D.C. Circuit was just the latest legal action since the
activists first challenged six Redskins’ trademarks in 1992.

The team has argued the name was meant to honor Native Americans.

So, the Redskins name and Dan Snyder’s litigation right are in tact. Often, many fans did get confused that the seemingly forever litigation was based on forcing the Redskins to drop Redskins.  Not the case at all.  This was more over the franchise’s trademark rights.  It is important to note as well, this goes beyond Snyder’s ownership.  The suit was initiated in 1992, Snyder bought the franchise in 1999.
