The Washington Nationals got thumped last night by the LA Dodgers. Three common themes continued from last night.
1. Daniel Cabrera is good for 5 innings allowing anywhere between 5 and 6 runs. Last night it was 5. This is exactly what Baltimore got out of Carbera. When is the Cabrera experiment going to end. Come on Nats, straighten up and get rid of Cabrera, it was a gamble that should have never been taken.
Replacements: How about Craig Stammen or Marcos Estrada. Shairon Martis and Jordan Zimmerman are having success, much like they did in the minors. Estrada and Stammen are having success in the minors now. How about a call up? Do the Nationals really believe Cabrera is suddenly going to wake up and be a quality starter?
2. The bullpen is also good for 5 or 6 runs. Check, done. Shook up the bullpen once and it didn’t work. I remember specifically hearing that if that didn’t work, then round two would come. Suggestions: Jesus Colome and Tyler Clippard. Colome has not allowed a run in 6.2 innings and has 3 saves. Clippard as pitched 12.2 innings and allowed 2 runs. Better than anything we got.
3. Ryan Zimmerman ‘s hitting streak continues. Zimmy was 1 for 3 last night extending his hitting streak to 24 games. Zimmy’s hitting .333 on the season.
Christian Guzman was 3 for 5 and raised his average to .397 while C Jesus Flores homered, number 3 on the season, and is hitting .291.
