Mocking the NBA Draft: Griffin, Rubio Solid 1st and 2nd picks

The NBA Mock Draft Database is pretty much getting updated on a daily basis.  The database has grown today by 6 new mock drafts and now consists of a total of 75 NBA mock drafts.

We welcome out two new partners to the fold.  These sites are absolutely top quality sites and we list them at the top of the main table separate from the rest.  Visit them often.  They are top notch sites in which we will fall back on for some NBA draft content.  Visit them here as well … The Hoop Doctors and Sports2Debate

Here are the stats as of today:

Total 2009 NBA Mocks:  75
Updated Today:  11
Updated in May:  25

We also updated the Top Consensus picks.  We did that by munching the 25 mock drafts that have been updated in the month of May.  Here are the results:

griffin.jpg1st pick:  F Blake Griffin (OKL).  Griffin has held this spot since we began munching for consensus weeks ago.  He was the unanimous choice among mocks then.  His % still remains high at an impressive 84% of mocks projecting him first over all, but that number decreases each time as some mocks are now projecting G Ricky Rubio from Spain.  This will likely change as well when the NBA Draft Lottery is held in June.  But for now, since Griffin is over 60%, we are declaring him, the NBA Mock Draft Database’s CONSENSUS 1st overall pick in the NBA Draft.

2nd pick:  G Ricky Rubio (Spain).    Rubio is popping up now in some mocks first overall.  But, as far as the munching of the 25 mocks updated in May, 73% of those mock drafts project Rubio to go 2nd overall.   Other choices here are Blake Griffin and Hasheem Thabeet.  Again, the Lottery selection will likely play a big role in this, dependent on team needs.  But for now, Rubio is over 60%, we are declaring him, the NBA Mock Draft Database’s CONSENSUS 2nd overall pick in the NBA Draft.

3rd pick:  C Hasheem Thabeet (UCONN).  Thabeet is growing the numbers here as the 3rd overall pick.  Our last update on April 26, Thabeet garner 35% of mocks projecting him 3rd overall.  That percentage has grown now to 50% of mocks projecting him 3rd overall.  He is the best Center in the draft.  Again, shifting positions will depend on the exact Lottery order and team needs, but Thabeet I would think is a guaranteed top five pick.   Thabeet does not tally 60% of mock drafts in our munch so he is not considered a consensus pick at #3.

harden.jpg4th pick:  G James Harden (ASU).  Harden is the new leader for the 4th spot overall.  During our last update on April 26, Jordan Hill held this spot.  Hill has fallen out of the Top 5 on our mock munch.  Harden has some shortcomings.  But he is very efficient with the ball and looks destined to be at worst, a top 7 pick.  Right now, he tallies 35% of the munched May mocks.  Other strong candidates here are Hasheem Thabeet, Jordan Hill, and Demar DeRozan. Harden does not tally 60% of mock drafts in our munch so he is not considered a consensus pick at #4.

5th pick:  G James Harden (ASU).  Harden led here in our last April update and still does.  Mocks are projecting him, as you can see, between 4 and 5.  He led last update with only 25% percent of mocks, as the #5 spot was all over the place.  He solidifies a lead here, jumping 21% to 46% of mocks projecting Harden to be the 5th pick of the NBA Draft.  Other players being projected here are Thabeet, Hill, Tyreke Evans, Demar DeRozan, Brandon Jennings, and Ty Lawson.  Harden does not tally 60% of mock drafts in our munch so he is not considered a consensus pick at #5.

As for the Washington Bullets (and we continue our rejection of the Wizards name), nearly every single mock is putting the Bullets at 2nd overall pick.  That means Ricky Rubio is the favorite to go to the Bullets.  In fact, this got a big jump, +29%, to 69% of mocks projecting Rubio to the Bullets.
