3B Ryan Zimmerman went 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Zimmerman’s 1st inning double extended his hitting streak to 21 games, the longest in MLB this year and longest in franchise history. Zimmy raised his average over the .300 mark to .306.
The story of the day though was the rarity on the mound. The Nationals finally got some solid starting pitching, more than solid, fantastic. Shairon Martis pitched a complete games, scattering 5 hits over 9 innings and allowing just 1 run. Martis improved to 3-0 on the season and lowered his ERA to 4.60. The Nationals improve to 6-17 and 5 of the Nationals 6 wins have come from the arms of youngster Martis and Jordan Zimmerman.
The Nats were powered by a three run homer off the bat of Adam Dunn, his 7th of the year, putting him 2 behind the National League lead. He now has 7 homers and 18 RBIs. Austin Kearns was 2 for 4 with a triple. Anderson Hernandez was also 2 for 4 and is hitting .299

Syracuse (AAA) fell to
Charlotte tonight 4-0. Colin Balestar allowed 9 hits and 3 runs in 4
innings to take the loss for the Chiefs. Jorge Padilla was 2 for 4 for
Syracuse and raised his batting average to .381. Harrisburg Senators (AA) shutout
Reading 3-0 behind the arm of Adrian Alaniz (1-0). Alaniz tossed 6
shutout innings allowing only 1 hit. David Williams and Zechery
Zinicola completed the shutout out of the bullpen. Mike Martinez,
Michael Daniel, and Bill Rhinehart had 2 hits each. After losing 14
straight, the Senators have now won 2 in a row. Potomac Nationals (A)
defeated Frederick 8-4. Erik Arnesen (3-1) continued his impressive
pitching picking up his third win, allowing 2 runs over 6 innings.
Danny Espinosa hit his 3rd homer and is hitting .303. Chris Marrero
was 1 for 3 and is hitting .314. Francisco Placencia was 2 for 2 with
2 doubles, 2 RBIs and a run. He is hitting .292. Hagerstown Suns (A)
beat West Virginia 6-3. Marcos Frias (1-1) pitched 5 innings and
allowed 1 earned run. Chris Lugo pitched an impressive 3 innings out
of the Suns bullpen, allowing 0 runs and striking out 4. Derek Norris
was 1 for 3 with a home run, 2 runs, and 3 RBis. It was Norris’ 5th
homer.
