Redskins minicamp began at 11 this morning.
Linemen: Phillip Daniels, Cornelius Griffin, Albert Haynesworth and Andre Carter
Linebackers: H.B. Blades, London Fletcher and Brian Orakpo
Secondary: Carlos Rogers and DeAngelo Hall (cornerbacks), LaRon Landry and Chris Horton (safeties)
Also desperate for offensive linemen, the Redskins invited G/T Jeremy Bridges to minicamp. Bridges played from Carolina from 2006-2008 and broke in to the NFL in 2003 with the Eagles. G Frank Davis, who has knocked around the league for a few years, is also in minicamp, as is Anthony Oakley, a G/T who has been with 3 NFL teams. Frankly, of this bunch, only Bridges looks even moderately interesting. OT Mike Williams, the gigantic 4th overall pick of the Buffalo Bills in 2002, who was signed recently, is not taking part in minicamp because he’s still too fat and out of shape.
TB Clinton Portis, who hates practice, minicamp, training camp and probably summer camp, too, dreamed up a new reason he should be on a beach in south Florida instead of working out with the rest of the team — swine flu.
“With the swine flu going around, this water could have some swine flu in it, then all of us gonna be dead,” Portis said during a group interview session with reporters on the field as it rained. “You should cancel minicamp, especially in bad weather. Right now in Mexico, they canceled all sporting events. They need to do that in the U.S. … This is a scary, dangerous situation.”
