John Carlson, the highly touted 2008 first round draft pick of the Washington Capitals has been assigned to the Hershey Bears. The Bears are on the quest for the Calder Cup Championship of the AHL and currently lead in the first round of the playoffs over Philadelphia, 3 games to none.
Carlson was playing in junior league OHL, but his team, the London Knights were eliminated from the playoffs freeing up Carlson. Carlson is highly regared and considered by some to be NHL ready, already. But as for now, he will begin in his professional career in highly competitive AHL and in the midst of a huge playoff run by Washington Capitals minor league affiliate.
