Almost out of cap space and healthy outside linebackers, the Washington Redskins signed Robert Thomas, who is definitely an outside linebacker, though he’s not definitely healthy.
Thomas has played 7 years in the NFL. His first 3 were spent with the St. Louis Rams, the team that drafted him in the first round. For the last 3 years, Thomas has played for the Oakland Raiders, who placed him on injured reserve last November. He played in only 2 games last year and accounted for only 2 tackles.
Thomas was a talented player once, but he’s been injury-prone and that has limited his effectiveness and availability. Basically, the Redskins got Thomas because he’s very cheap and he’s very cheap because nobody else really wanted him. He could be a bargain if he manages to stay healthy…Just don’t count on that.
