NFL Draft Mockery: Matt Stafford still projected #1

stafford.jpgQB Matt Stafford remains the overall projected consensus pick at #1 according to the results of the NFL Mock Draft Database.  Every ten days or so, we update our Consensus Picks for the Top Five picks based on a certain number of Mock Drafts recently updated.  Today, the Consensus Projections are based on all mock drafts updated in the month of March, a total of 114 mock drafts.

Here are the Top 5 Picks, leader wise among the 114 mocks when munched together . . . (Picks are not deemed to be CONSENSUS, unless they hit at least 60% of projected mocks)

1st Pick (DETROIT LIONS)QB Matt Stafford.   Stafford remains the overall CONSENSUS  pick for the Lions and 1st overall in the NFL Draft.   Of the 114 mock drafts updated in March, 69% are projecting the Lions to select the quarterback from Georgia.   That is big enough for the DCPSR Database to call Stafford the CONSENSUS 1st pick of the Draft.  His number hasn’t fallen either, our last updated on March 1st had Stafford at 69% as well.

2nd Pick (ST. LOUIS RAMS)OT Jason Smith.  Smith’s awesome performance at the NFL Combine shot him up from a 13th to 19th pick all the way up to being the leader at #2 overall.   Smith now commands 50% of the 114 mocks updated in March.  The Rams would have loved to have had Chris Long, but didn’t have the number one pick.  They seem set to get their offensive tackle in this draft, especially because this draft has some good offensive tackles in it.  The 50% puts Jason Smith the projected lead here but not enough to be a consensus pick.

3rd Pick:  (KANSAS CITY CHIEFS)LB Aaron Curry.  Curry is the best defensive player in the draft and the mock drafts are giving him some love at 3rd overall.  From our last updated on March 1, Curry jumps 16% among mocks and is now the DCPSR Database Consensus 3rd overall pick with 64% of the 114 mock drafts updated in March projecting him to the Chiefs.

4th Pick:  (SEATTLE SEAHAWKS)OT Eugene Monroe.  WR Michael Crabtree was a Consensus pick here, but the Seahawks signing of WR TJ Houshmandzadeh in free agency flipped this.  Monroe on many player rankings is second ranked among OTs next to Jason Smith.  In some he is number one overall.  Then again, former GM Charley Casserly doesn’t believe Monroe is a top 10 pick.  Right now Monroe garners 25% of the 114 mocks updated in March.  Crabtree and DT BJ Raji are also putting up solid numbers at 4th.   Not even close to being a consensus pick here.

5th Pick:  (CLEVELAND BROWNS)DE Brian Orakpo.  Last update on Mrach 1, Orakpo took the lead here over Aaron Curry.  He maintains it. More and more mocks are solidifying Orakpo at #5, his percentage jumping 19% since March 1st to 46% of mocks.   Orakpo is quickly becoming the top Defensive End in the draft, ahead of guys like Everette Brown, Tyson Jackson, and Aaron Maybin.  Orakpo is not yet a consensus pick, but is heading in that direction.

andre-smith.jpgAs for the Washington Redskins at #13, the leader remains for the second straight update OT Andre Smith..  In fact, Smith jumped 9% and now commands 39% of the 114 mock drafts updated in March projecting him to the Redskins.  Watch here what the Redskins do.  If they sign a free agent like Elton Brown, mock drafts could begin the shift to either a projection of a DE or LB.

Risers for the RedskinsLB Brian Cushing and DE Tyson Jackson are starting to pop up in mock drafts for the Redskins 13th pick.  11 mocks are not projecting Cushing to the Skins.  Jackson just started appearing this week.  There are now 7 mocks projecting Jackson at 13th.

Divers for the RedskinsDE Everett Brown and OT Eugene Monroe are nearly non-existent now, more than likely because most mocks are projecting both players to go in the top 8.  OT Eben Britton also seems to be disappearing.

The Database is the largest on the Web and is the official Mock Draft Database of the Most Valuable Netwrk.

Really? The Rams would have loved to have Chris Long at number 2? Are you talking about last year? They did get a Chris Long last year at number 2. Do you mean Jake Long last year?
