More Redskins restructuring

AUTHOR: | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 1 Comment |

It’s February, which means the Redskins are busy restructuring contracts to help get them back under the salary cap so they can spend more money on more free agents that won’t earn their contracts. They’ve already done WR Antwaan Randle-El  and DE Andre Carter, ensuring these two under-performing millionaires who should be looking for work will be anchored to the Redskins salary cap for another year or two.

For the 4th time since 2005, the Redskins have turned to LT Chris Samuels to redo his deal and help management wriggle away from the consequences of its poor decisionmaking. Samuels restructured his contract to lower his cap figure in 2009 from $5 million to $2 million, taking a $3 million bonus right away and extending his current deal thru 2014. [Ha!]

And if you think that’s all, you don’t know the Redskins very well. The Skins are also negotiating a restructuring of DT Cornelius Griffin‘s contract that should lower his cap value this year. The deal should be done by the time you wake up on Thursday morning.

I wouldn't cut Samuels. I think he's terrific, when healthy. I think Randle El, Andre Carter, Jason Taylor, Fred Smoot and a whole host of other guys should be playing somewhere else [or nowhere at all] in 2009.
