Caps Recall Alzner; Laich, Kozlov Don't Practice

alzner.jpgThe Washington Capitals have recalled 2007 first round draft pick Karl Alzner.  Alzner was at Kettler Ice Complex today for practice.

Alzner has played 27 games this season for the Capitals and has scored 1 goal with 4 assists.  Caps were forced to send Alzner back to the AHL when Tom Poti made his return from long term injured reserve.  Given the Caps salary cap, Alzner’s slaary at the time would have been prohibitive without some kind of roster move.  That move occurred when Chris Clark elected to have wrist surgery that will shelve him for the season, removing Clark’s salary against the Caps cap.

Tarik is reporting that Victor Kozlov and Brooks Laich did not practice today.  Unjssure completely what Laich’s problem is, but it is belived to be a leg injury.  Kozlov tweaked his groin and was not on the ice.  He has missed two consecutive games, and given it is a groin, may miss more as well.  If Laich can’t go, look for another recall from Hershey.

So Poti returned the game after the All Star Break and which we noted it was the first time since November 6th the whole roster was healthy.  Didn’t last long eh?
