Free agent 1B Mark Teixeira will announce later today that he has reached agreement with the Boston red Sox, spurning the Washington Nationals.
While the source declined to discuss specifics, there are strong indications that the Red Sox will announce that they have landed the highly-coveted slugger, who has been courted this off-season by several major league clubs, including the Angels, Orioles and Nationals.
This really comes as no surprise. For a player like Teixeira, what is the draw to DC? There isn’t any.
The interesting thing will be to watch what the Washington Nationals do now. Was this all bullcrap? Was this all a way for the Lerner’s to make it appear as if they were interested in spending big cash to improve the team, knowing all along they would be off the hook? I think these are serious questions that need answered and will be answered when we see how the Washington Nationals react.
