The Washington Nationals bolstered their pitching staff by inking former Orioles starter Daniel Cabrera to a one year deal.
Cabrera will likely step right into the Nationals rotation, joining another newcomer, Scott Olsen, acquired via trade a month ago along with OF Josh Willingham. Cabrera was 8-10 with a 5.25 ERA last season. He is known for a super fast fastball and a pretty good curve ball.
Cabrera can eat a ton of innings, tossing 204 in 2007 and 180 in 2008. He has struggled with a higher ERA, usually near 5.00, but also can rack up strikeouts, striking out 157 in 2006 and 166 in 2007. The Nationals are hoping that Cabrera simply needs a change to the National League to be the dominating pitcher most expect him to be.
