Thank you goes out to Washington Post sports writer Thomas Boswell. Boswell has been one of the finest Washington Post sports reporters for sometime and this time, Boswell turned his attention to the best team in Washington DC sports, the Washington Capitals and specifically, Alexander Ovechkin, the monster.
There has been a plethora of criticism, not just here in DC, but pretty much all over, for the lacksadaiscal coverage of the NHL. Washington DC is not exempted from that. BUT, The Washington Post has turned its attention to the Capitals. Why? Because they are quickly becoming a big time Fad in DC. They sell out the Verizon Center. You see more Caps gear on the streets. People are becoming interested. Ticket sales are booming. TV audience has skyrocketed. The Washington Post isn’t stupid.
Let’s face it, this is DC. We have the Washington Redskins who are embarking on a colossal collapse, the Wizards who look more like a MASH Unit, and playing like it, then you have the Capitals, sitting with an 8 point lead in the Southeast Division and 5 points out of the overall lead in the Eastern Conference. BUT, the Capitals also have one other thing. One other huge draw. One other trump card. His name is Alex Ovechkin. He is addictive. His character is colorful. His play is aggressive. His game time is intensive. His off time is jubilant. Alexander Ovechkin is no longer the ONLY Cap worth to see, but he is the foundation, the base, the super star, the Great 8 of the Washington Capitals.
Our thanks goes out to Thomas Boswell on a great read and the coverage. BUT, let’s not forget the great daily coverage we get regardless, from Tarik El-Bashir at the Washington Post. A hats off to the Post for the Caps recognition.
