Monday Morning Pundits

So what are the pundits saying this morning about your Washington Redskins, sitting at 6-2, after a 25-17 win in Detroit. Here you go …
Clark Judge, CBS Sportsline, the Judgments …

The next four games will tell us what to make of the Washington Redskins in the NFC East. Yeah, three of them are at home, but look whom they’re against: Pittsburgh, Dallas and the New York Giants. And the fourth? It’s at Seattle, and I don’t care how bad the Seahawks are. That’s a tough trip.

We agree. The Redskins appear at times to be an elite NFC team. But then they show lapses. They get in ruts where offensive TDs are far and few apart. They also seems to struggle in putting a team away. Why can’t this team blow out a inferior opponent. Why can’t this team seal the deal early in the fourth quarter, instead of taking nearly everything down to final minutes. So questioning this 6-2 team is pretty fair at this point, but, the Redskins are 6-2 and that speaks for itself.

Santana Moss (658 receiving yards, five touchdowns in the win over the Detroit Lions) is probably one of the most underrated wide receivers of this season. Clinton Portis (126 rushing yards Sunday) is opening up his lead for the rushing crown. And quarterback Jason Campbell still hasn’t thrown an interception in 230 attempts this season. What’s not to like?

Agreed. The Redskins offense is running fairly smoothly on all cylinders but scoring,. There are still times this offense struggles to punch it in. Moss is clearly back to a few years ago where he simply was dominant. Perhaps the maturation and progress of Jason Campbell is aiding the resurgence of Moss.

If I had to rank Washington’s Santana Moss, Carolina’s Steve Smith and the Jets’ Leon Washington in terms of their importance to their team, I’m not sure how I would differentiate among three of biggest little men in the NFL. All three are playmakers extraordinaire, and each scored a pair of touchdowns Sunday in their team’s victory.

7. Washington (6-2). No style points (SP) for a close-call win in Detroit. Luckily, in the NFL, there’s a column for W’s, a column for L’s and no SP column.

I know you love Clinton Portis, Jim Zorn. And you should. But that little tete-a-tete on the sidelines in Detroit with Mr. Portis should tell you that you’re dealing with what Tom Coughlin has dealt with over the last three years with Plaxico Burress. High-maintenance guys. But great players. You’ve got to make peace and move on.
