Redskins @ Giants: Thumbs Up/Thumbs Down

THUMBS UP
WR Santana Moss. Moss finished with 9 catches for 140 yards and a 50-yard TD pass. Moss also returned a punt 80 yards for a touchdown. He displayed toughness in breaking tackles and breakaway speed and moves in eluding tacklers. It was a truly magnificent performance.
Special Teams Coach Danny Smith. It’s been a tough season for Smith so far, with his return teams struggling to break runs and his punt coverage team looking downright incompetent at times. Then there was the rookie punter… But not today. The special teams accounted for 19 of Washington 25 points. Santana Moss returned a punt 80 yards for a TD and PK Shaun Suisham kicked 4 field goals to keep the Redskins in the game and then to seal the win.
Players who almost got a thumbs up: TB Clinton Portis rushed for 126 yards on 24 carries [5.3] and QB Jason Campbell completed 23 of 28 passes for 328 yards and a TD. He threw no interceptions, but did fumble twice, losing one.
THUMBS DOWN
LT Stephon Heyer. Heyer didn’t make much of a case to get his starting job back. After being forced into the starting job when Pro Bowl LT Chris Samuels couldn’t play, Heyer got beaten for 2 sacks and also a penalty. He looked completely overmatched and unready for the job.
Laron Landry. Landry committed a bad personal foul penalty trying to tackle WR Charles Johnson and still allowed the wideout to run over him and score a TD. Landry also committed a very stupid blocking penalty on a punt return — right in front of an official. It was a sloppy game for Laron.
Player who almost got a thumbs down: RT Jon Jansen is lucky Heyer played so poorly because he was no better. Jansen committed multiple penalties and seemed out out of his depth most of the game. He avoids the thumbs down only because he recovered Campbell’s second fumble.
