Around the Caps Rink (9/18)

AUTHOR: dcprosportsreport | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: None Yet

For those of you who are unsure of the status of Nicklas Backstrom, since spraining his ankle last week, Backstrom was back on the ice, no pain, doing well.  You are permitted to breathe again.
Today is the rookie game between the Washington Capitals rookies and the Philadelphia Flyers rookies, live, 3PM at the Kettler Ice Complex.
Eyes will be on the young goal tenders, Simeon Varlamov and Michal Neuvirth, D Karl Alzner, 2008 first round pick John Carlson, D Josh Godfrey, Mathieu Perreault, Francois Bouchard, and 2008 first round pick Anton GustafssonGustfasson has been sidelined form practice with a herniated disc in his back, so he may not skate.  As for planning to attend, don’t if you don’t have a free ticket yet, because it is sold out, full!  What can we say — Caps hockey is hot right now, period.  This is not a one town team anymore.
OFB picks up on the strong reporting form the DC papers about the Capitals.  Of course, we here also like the job Tarik at the Washington Post does as well.  We suspect the Washington DC news media will pay a bit more attention to the Capitals in 2008/09 given the rise in popularity.
