Did we get any new info out of the Washington Post live chat with Jason LaCanfora, Post’s Skins beat reporter?
When asked about contribution from Kelly and Thomas, JLC had this to say …
I’m still a doubter on the Saints secondary and believe it is the major weak spot on the club, and the Skins need to attack it.
I absolutely concur. Problem here is not taking advantage of a weaker secondary, but executing the offense and having time to execute the offense. The Redskins have struggled at both.
Here is some insight into the Heyer/Jansen deal …
Heyer is going to really have to slip to lose it. I get the sense Zorn is looking to the future and especially with a young QB, pass pro is huge (and he’s not going to use too much help all the time in the protection schemes). Jansen is often practicing at guard and just feeling his way through. It was not too pretty at times last week – which one would expect given that he’s never played there before
And in essence, they really do need to concentrate on getting younger on the Lines. Question is — they didn’t know this on April 28th?
Aghhhh, on the passing attack …
No team is really threatened by the Skins deep game right now, and so Cooley is going to command a lot of attention. He’s also going to have to help out a lot blocking trying to get the run game going.
I bolded that section for a reason. Does that ring a bell? Do you remember when we suffered the same problems under Steve Spurrier. Teams would live up to blitz because of absolutely no fear of the deep ball. 5 years later, we’re back in the same spot.
On the lack of building Lines first …
Good teams start with putting their independent positions in a position to succeed (QB, DTs, O Line) and then building around that with dependent positions like WR, CB. You start closest to the ball. Pretty much tried and true.
Ding! Ding! Ding! We have been saying it here at DCPSR for a long time! It all starts on the Lines (both of them) and then you build from there. Dominant lines dominate games. Dominate corners get torn apart if the DLine can’t apply pressure. You can have the greatest receivers, but your QB NEEDS TIME to throw. They just haven’t figure this part out in Ashburn yet.
