Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good. The Washington Redskins just got a huge break: Saints WR Marques Colston is out 4-6 weeks after having surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb. Colston caught almost 100 passes for over 1200 yards last year and has been New Orleans’ best and most consistent offensive player during his 2 years in the NFL. In fact, his 168 catches is the most any NFL receiver has ever had during his first 2 seasons in the league. And his 19 touchdowns over that same period ain’t bad either.
The Saints will now have to fall back on WR David Patten [formerly of the Redskins, where he did nothing] and WR Devery Henderson. New Orleans still has Pro Bowl QB Drew Brees, TB Deuce McAllister and super-back Reggie Bush, but the loss of Colston is a major loss for the Saints offense.
