Quite possible.
According to Jason LaCanfora at the Washington Post, Malcolm Kelly is back to practice after missing most of training camp and pre-season with hamstring and knee problems.
“I was really just tired of sitting around,” Kelly said. “I know what I still have to do. I still have to refresh with the plays and make sure I go out there and get the small things right.”
What is unclear is the impact Kelly will have. We didn’t get to see him in a game time situation. According to quotes here in JLC’s article, one guy that is excited is QB Jason Campbell.
Having Kelly on the field against New Orleans “would be great for our receivers, great for our whole team, because of what he brings to the table,” quarterback Jason Campbell said. “We know Malcolm is a guy who can make plays. You always want to have as many guys as you can like that out there.”
If there is one single thing that the Redskins offense is missing is that tall receiver than can get one and be a legit deep threat as well as corner end zone threat. That is what Kelly and Devin Thomas were drafted for. But both came into camp not in their best physical shape and have struggled to adapt to the NFL style and learn the Zorn offense. Last week against the Giants, Thomas caught 1 pass for 5 yards and was pretty much only thrown to once.
The impact of Kelly is very unclear. Kelly has the talent to excel and be that tall, deep threat the Redskins have lacked for years. The problem with Kelly is twofold for now. One, Kelly has not shown any ability to stay healthy. He injured both his hamstring and knew during camp and pre-season, not a very good start for a guy that likely fell in the draft due to knee concerns. Second, there have been statements by HC Jim Zorn that Kelly was struggling to adapt to the NFL and learn the playbook. Not sure what has changed form a few weeks ago to now, but for this offense, it can use any kick it gets.
Kelly stand 6’4″ and Thomas at 6’2″, both meeting the Redskins needs for taller receivers. Now they just have to catch up. It is apparent the Redskins need additional wide receiver threats, beyond just Antwaan Randle El and Santana Moss. If Kelly and Thomas can begin stepping up and fitting into the offense, the Redskins offense could begin moving the ball. It’s alot of IFS and BUTS. Clearly, form the Giant game, Jim Zorn uses way more 4 wide receiver sets than predecessor Joe Gibbs. If Kelly and Thomas can start playing paramount roles, those 4 receivers sets could get interesting and fuel the Zorn offense.
Discuss it.

Kelly's contribution to this team can be fantastic if he can get,and stay, healthy. I'm very much looking forward to seeing him play.
