Just seems like they lose 9 straight, then win 4 straight. Lost 12 straight, now win 5 straight. The inconsistency is staggering, because lately, the wins and losses come in bunches instead of a few here and there. This is no different.
The Washington Nationals won their 5th straight tonight beating the Atlanta Braves in 10 innings after Elijah Dukes walked in the game winner.
It looked as if the 4 game winning streak was about to be snapped in a big way when the Braves took a 4-o lead on a big third inning. Anderson Hernandez responded one inning later with a two run single to cut the lead to 4-2. Atlanta jumped up 6-2 the very next inning with 2 solo home runs. But the Nationals didn’t fold. Instead, the Nats put together a 5 run 5th inning to storm back and take a 7-6 lead. Rafael Belliard started the scoring doubling in Ryan Zimmerman and sending Lastings Milledge to third. With the bases loaded in the same inning, Jesus Flored line a double and scored 3 runs to tie the game at 6-6. Hernandez then singled in Flores to cap a 5 run 5th inning.
Tonight was all about the top of the order for the Nationals. The first 6 batters were 15 for 32. Hernandez, Zimmerman, and Christian Guzman each collected 3 hits each while Milledge, Belliard, and Dukes added 2 apiece. Both Flores and Hernandez drove in 3 runs.
Jason Bergmann started for the Nats but got shelled for 8 hits and 6 runs in 4 innings of work. Rookie Steve Shell (1-1) earned his first major league win out of the bullpen.
