Frost — Grab a Kleenex and Cry in Seattle

AUTHOR: dcprosportsreport | IN: Uncategorized | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Punter Derrick Frost didn’t hold back after losing his job to 6th round draft selection Durant Brooks.  Frost essentially blasted the Redskins front office and accused the front office of making the decision to release him.  Talking about burning bridges.

“I feel like I was dealt with dishonestly,” Frost said. “I want to thank [special teams coach] Danny Smith for the three years he gave me here, and I feel like he always treated me well, and I will continue to think that. But I think we all know who made the decision, and when you’ve got a draft that isn’t starting to look so good, you’re going to do whatever you can to make it look as good as possible.”

Now, as many of you readers out there may know, we don’t hold back when taking about the Redskins front office.  We are not overly aggressive towards the front office, but we also don’t own a pair of burgundy and gold glasses when it comes to Vinny and company.  When their wrong, we tell it.  We have blasted the fornt office, called them names, you name it.  When they are wrong.
But, in this situation, this is Derrick Frost’s problem.  Frost seems to forget why the Redskins felt they need to select Brooks via the NFL draft in the first place.  It’s called — INCONSISTENCY.  Frost should have taken the hint in April when the selection was made.
As we have said, and many of you have read here before, you don’t take the overall, number one punter in the nation, in the NFL draft, 6th round, for no good reason.  In 2007, Frost was the 5th worst punter in the NFL with a pretty lousy 41.0 yard average.  His inconsistent shanks always seem to come at the worst times.
Second, did we not go through this very thing last camp?  Did Frost not battle his way on tot the roster last season with an outstanding pre-season performance, only to finish 5th from the last in punting in the regular season.  Sorry, Derrick, been there done that.
Did Frost punt well in pre-season?  Of course he did.  Did he in 2007 as well?  Of course he did.  But, the bigger question is, how did Durant Brooks do?  Brooks average 42.8 in the pre-season, but some of that because he was kicking from mid-field.  He has some excellent placement of the ball and put 5 of the 13 punts inside the 20.  In other words, Brooks did what the Redskins drafted him to do, nothing less.  Given Frost’s inconsistency and the fact that Brooks led the nation in punting, won the Ray Guy Award as the nations best college punter and then followed it up doing everything the Redskins asked, why would Frost be surprised?  Fact is, if the decision did come from Vinny Cerrato, which my bet is it did not, but even if it did, I say, good call Vinny!  Frost lost this job because Frost is inconsistent.  Frost lost this job because, well, he just isn’t very good.
Take a kleenex and go cry in Seattle Derrick, Brooks is the man here.  My bet is, if you do nail down a job somewhere else, you will be looking up the stat column at Durant Brooks.

Frost’s comments would be easier to take if he was a good punter, but he’s average at best.Apparently he’s also a little immature. Is he also one of the Washington Post great sources about what is REALLY going on with the Redskins? What a joke.

The writing was on the wall when Brooks was drafted. I am sure that there was ample time and words of wisdoms given to this guy.
Why not turn over some of the roster, the team will not win the Super Bowl this year. The new head coach wants his guys on the roster. Is that a bad thing? Not from what I see in Zorn so far.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the season will not be a nice record wise as some fans would like.
