Bye, bye — Redskins Make few roster cuts

S Vernon Fox, DE Dorian Smith, and DT Babatunde Oshinowo are the first roster cuts to come.  The player releases leaves the Redskins two player shy of the mandatory roster reductions by Tuesday.
Fox became expendable because of the drafting and subsequent play of young safeties Kareem Moore and Chris Horton.  A small flicker of brightness out of the 47-3 crushing on Saturday was the play of Kareem Moore, particularly in the first quarter, with the first unit, in place of injured starter Laron Landry.
DE Dorian Smith really did not stand a chance either.  Same goes for DT Babatunde Oshinowo.  The Redskins will likely keep 9 defensive lineman, but it is unclear whether they will keep 4 DTs and 5 DEs or 5 DTs and 4 DEs.   At DT, the roster locks are Anthony Montgomery, Kedric Golston, and Cornelius Griffin.  A near lock is Lorenzo Alexander.  Yet, Ryan Boschetti has had a pretty impressive pre-season and deserves consideration.  At DEs, the locks are Jason Taylor, Andre Carter, and Demetric Evans.  Battling for final spots are Erasmus James, Chris Wilson, and 7th round pick Rob Jackson.  Jackson has been pretty impressive as well, but seems destine for a practice squad spot.
Even with the release of Smith and Oshinowo, the Redskins still have some pretty difficult decisions to make on the defensive line.  The knee sprain to Jason Taylor could push the Redskins to go the 5DE/4DT route.
