Injury Roundup … Well, Redskins fans are going to be able to see some players they have been waiting to see since the Hall of Fame game and beyond. WR Devin Thomas went full speed at practice yesterday and appears set to play this Saturday against the Favre-led NY Jets. With expectations high for most Redskins fans on the passing game because of the additions of Thomas and Malcolm Kelly via the NFL draft, disappointment instead has reigned as both have suffered injuries and set backs. Although Kelly is still 2 to 3 weeks away, after undergoing minor knee surgery, Thomas is set to go.
News may not be quite as good on Laron Landry. Although Landry appears pretty close to returning from a sore hamstring, he is still listed as unlikely for Saturday. Read more on Landry from the Washington Post. RB Rock Cartwright should return Saturday. Cartwright may be in a position where he needs to fend off Marcus Mason. S Chris Horton is trying to claw his way back to the lineup after being sidelined with a colon infection. Horton’s availability for Saturday is up in the air at this point.
Finally, DE Erasmus James, former first round pick obtained from Minnesota, would like to see action for a few snaps against New York. James has been on the physically unable to perform list, but was removed a few days ago and is taking part in team drills. James has history since being drafted in the first round a few years ago of serious knee injuries and he is trying to get his career back on track in DC. It’s funny, because I can remember many mock drafts in our Mock Draft Database projecting the Redskins to take James in the first round of the 2005 NFL draft, instead, the Redskins selected CB Carlos Rogers at #8 and traded up to take a young QB at #21, Jason Campbell.
Players know to be out for Saturday …
Wide receivers Anthony Mix (ribs) and Malcolm Kelly (knee), linebacker H.B. Blades (knee), and offensive linemen Todd Wade (ankle) and Stephon Heyer (knee) are not practicing and likely to miss at least this week.
Reed Doughty … Richmond Times writes a nice piece on Redskins starting safety Reed Doughty. Given all the things Doughty has had to go through with his young son, I never knew Doughty himself had a serious hearing problem.
And in addition to everything involving his son, Doughty has one other thing to handle. He has hearing loss so severe that he wears hearing aids off the field.
“People think it’s a big deal, but it’s not,” Doughty said. “The great thing about football is that so much has to do with hand signals. There’s no snap count I have to hear.”
Moss Packs a Punch … Ever wonder how Santana Moss works out in the off-season. Wonder no more.
