Game One: Nats 6, Rockies 3

by Uncategorized

Don’t worry about another long losing slide after Colorado snapped Washington’s 4 game winning streak,  at least for now, the Nats are back on a roll taking game one of a double header against Colorado, 6-3.
CF Lasting Milledge was the big bat in game one, smacking two home runs, going 3 for 4 and driving in 3 runs.  Milledge’s first shot was a solo leadoff homer in the top of the fifth inning. That shot was followed 2 batters later by a run scoring double off the bat of Willie Harris.  Rookie 2B Emilio Bonifacio would then triple in Harris to complete a 3 run fifth inning.  Bonifacio finished 2 for 5.  Bonifacio is 10 for 27 since being traded to the Nationals.

Milledge followed up in the sixth inning with a two run homer, scoring Austin Kearn, then singled in Christian Guzman in the 7th inning to cap a 3 RBI game.  Ronnie Bellaird also collected 2 hits.
The Nats finally were able to give offensive support to starter Jason Bergmann.  Bergmann tossed 7 innings of 1 run baseball, scattering 7 hits and striking out 7 to improve to 2-8 with an ERA of 4.13.  Joel Hanrahan picked up his second save since being handed the closer role when Rauch was dealt for Bonifacio.
The Nationals are leading the second game in the 6th inning by a score of 6-2.
