Jason LaCanfora held an online chat today to discuss all things Redskins. It wasn’t the best chat he’s ever held, but DC Pro Sports Report covers everything to do with the Redskins so here are the highlights:
- Backup QB Colt Brennan has serious throwing mechanics issues and is a project that will need years to develop, if he ever does;
- Jim Zorn is still learning to organize his time as an NFL head coach;
- Todd Collins has the #2 job at quarterback no matter how poorly he plays [and he's been poor];
- It’s going to take DE Erasmus James weeks to work himself into shape and anything the Redskins get from him this season is gravy;
- Zorn expects Jason Campbell to complete at least 60% of his passes this season;
- LaCanfora believes the teams needs 6 cornerbacks, which seems right in this passing league;
- Defensive Coordinator Greg Blache wants to rotate his DL as much as possible and they think they’re fine at that position, so long as DT Cornelius Griffin stays healthy [gulp!];
There appears to be an actual position battle at Redskins Park this training camp. DT Anthony Montgomery, who started 15 games last year, is in a day-to-day battle with DT Kedric Golston for the starter’s job. That’s a problem for Montgomery because he just broke a bone in his hand over the weekend and will miss 2-4 weeks. That can’t help his cause. Defensive Coordinator Greg Blache said that Golston played so well in the team’s playoff loss to Seattle that he would have started the next playoff game had the Redskins found a way to win. So, we’ll keep an eye on that position.
In other Redskins news, still more injured at Ashburn:
Linebacker H.B. Blades sprained his left knee in practice this morning and is being evaluated by the staff.
Running back Eric Shelton, who had a shoulder stinger, is being checked; it may be a neck injury.
LT Chris Samuels got a pie in the face from teammate RG Randy Thomas in honor of Samuels’ 31st birthday. On the subject of Samuels, Zorn expects him to do some work with the team this week, but there’s virtually no chance you’ll see him on the field on August 3. Also, don’t expect to see WR Malcolm Kelly or FS Laron Landry on August 3, though both are quickly recovering from their injuries. [Doesn't it seem as if every post involves some kind of Redskins injury?]
