Potomac Nationals (A) shutout Salem 7-0 last night behind an excellent pitching performance by Jeff Mandel. Mandel tossed 5.2 shutout innings allowing 4 hits. Mandel improved to 4-2 with an ERA of 2.83 since being promoted from Hagerstown. Atahualpa Severino, Ryan Wagner, and Jhonny Nunez completed the shutout.
Mike Martinez was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and 3 RBIs. Ryan Zimmerman, on rehab, was 1 for 5 and Andrew Lafave hit his first homer as a Potomac nat to help the 9 hit, 7 run pounding of Salem.
Hagerstown Suns (Low A) were off and begin a 4 game series against Augusta tonight.
Vermont Lake Monsters (Short A) were off last night and will begin a three game series tonight against Williamsport.
Gulf Coast League Nationals (Rookie) fell to the GCL Cardinal 3-2. 2008 6th round draft pick Paul Demney pitched 2.1 scoreless innings. Daniel Gil blew the save and allowed the game winning run in the 9th. The GCL Nationals offense was pretty morbid as well, managing just 2 hits and 2 runs.
