NBA Draft Countdown

The latest rumor is that the Bullets will trade the 18th overall pick to the Houston Rockets for the 25th overall pick and G Luther Head, who will earn $1.9 million this coming season. I wouldn’t be too keen on that. I’m not sure what Luther Head gives the Bullets [no jokes, please!] apart from another warm body. He’s not a particularly good shooter, nor does he have great size for his position. I’m not surprised the Rockets are hoping to move him, though, considering how they lost all confidence in him during the playoffs and gave him less than 9 minutes per game. The Bullets need a point guard depth, but I don’t think Luther Head is the answer.
Darrell Arthur — some mocks have him going to Washington as a possible replacement for Antawn Jamison – visited the Bullets yesterday. The problem with taking Arthur, whose draft stock has dropped a bit lately, is that if the team keeps Jamison, as planned, there will be a lot of forwards on the roster and not enough minutes for some of them. Washington already has invested money and draft picks in Andray Blatche and Oleksiy Pecherov. Unless they’ve already given up on one or both of them, drafting Arthur doesn’t make much sense.
Ivan Carter thinks Ernie Grunfeld is leaning towards trading out of the first round entirely in exchange for future considerations. Well, that would be…boring.
