Caps Trade Up, Take Gustafsson

by Uncategorized

The Washington Capitals traded their 23rd and 54th overall picks to New Jersey to move up to 21st and selected Swedish C Anton Gustafsson.  The move is an interesting move given the fact the Capitals gave up their 54th to move up two spots.  That tells me Gustafsson would likely not have been around at 23rd.
Gustafsson was ranked 24th overall by Hockey News.  In the Juniro 20 league in Sweden, Gustafsson in 23 games tallied 23 points, 10 goals and 13 assists with a +17 rating.
Hockey Future has a nice prospect write up on Gustafsson.

He is a highly skilled two-way center with very good hockey sense. Gustafsson has good size, decent strength and plays a hard-nosed game where he often likes to play the body. Although perhaps not a natural goal scorer, he does have a good release. Could perhaps work some with his acceleration, but he is fast when he reaches full speed and very difficult for the defensemen to get hold of.
