компютриWhat can you say about the Nationals that has not been said yet. They stink right now. They can’t hit, there is no power, their pitching is suspect, their defense worse than that. The one I feel sorry for — Christian Guzman. He is having an excellent season among a horrible team.
Bowden’s future — One question that will linger here at DCPSR — Just how long does GM Jim Bowden really have? How many excuses and chances should he get? From the day he took over, is the major league club really any better? Injuries, oh well. The fact is, Wily Mo Pena, Elijah Dukes and Lastings Milledge aren’t injured. Austin Kearns was hitting sub-.200 before injury and has failed to live up to any sense of expectations. Odalis Perez is going to be your solid, experience, anchor starter? Are you kidding me? Granted the Nationals have had terrific 2006 and 2007 draft classes, but facts are facts, draft classes don’t sell tickets, and the Nationals are struggling in Washington, DC. How can a city get excited about a new franchise when the product put on the field simply stinks year to year? Can Stan Kasten and Jim Bowden honestly say this team is exciting to watch and DC, Virgina, and MD residents should flock to see them. Come on, come back to reality. Perhaps the question that Kasten and the Lerner folks need to ask is the same one that was asked about Frank Robinson. Has Bowden served his place and is it now time to hire anew to go to the next level?
Bill Ladson did his MLB mailbag.
Ladson says Kearns should be back in 2 to 4 weeks. Kearns has been a disappointment at the plate since he was obtained from the Reds. Expected to be a 25HR and 80RBI guy, Kearns has consistently fallen short and was in fact hitting below .200 when injured. So is Kearns coming back any real relief? Does anyone otu there really care, besides the one guy that asked the question?
Ladson is asked about the bullpen struggles …
I think missing Chad Cordero is a big part of it, and pitchers such as Luis Ayala, Saul Rivera and Jesus Colome are just missing their spots.
Ladson is being optimistic. I don’t think the struggles are nearly related to Cordero’s injury as some want to believe. The fact is, they just aren’t pitching as well as last season. The placement, the effectiveness is less so. But I do agree that the bullpen can not share a large part of the blame when the offense is dismal.
Check this one out. A response to Ladson’s optimism, Ladson responds …
There’s no doubt they need to make changes when it comes to the bats. Releasing Rob Mackowiak was a start, but it’s not enough.
Releasing Mackowiak was a start??? One, he should have never been on the team in the first place, but two, he can hardly be blamed for anything, he barely played.
Wanna start? Get some guys up that are ready to play baseball. Guys like Colin Balestar, Roger Bernadina, Justin Maxwell (when healthy), etc…If your gonna lose, then lose with guys getting significant experience. Two, replace Jim Bowden. BUT, the big problem, let’s face it, lies in the very front of the offices , with Ted and Mark Lerner. Their building project is fine and all, but the weakness of it is, this is a fragile franchise because of a new relocation, where the city and surrounding area are having serious problems embracing the franchise because they simply stink year to year. Let’s remember the big difference between the Washington Capitals and the Washington Nationals building project. The Capitals have been here for years, the Nats are new, and it is a critical time for the franchise to begin building a loyal fan base. But how can they. What’s the draw? Who’s the draw? Why would anyone really want to come out and see this team right now? That Mr. Kasten and Mr. Lerner is YOUR FAULT! You got no veteran help at the plate and no veteran help ont he mound to see this youth movement move forward. If Pena and Dukes were the power answer, then Bowden’s scouting sucks. So the Bowden big additions –> Felipe Lopez, Austin Kearns, Wily Mo Pena, Elijah Dukes, Wily Mo Pena, and Odalis Perez. On any other Club, would Bowden seriously keep his job????
Ladson again …on Kearns
I could see general manager Jim Bowden making trades, but I don’t see him trading Kearns because of his superstar potential.
How many seasons do we await ‘potential” Just a questions.
We welcome and encourage comments.

I'll give him two more years (yea, I'm a patient dude) or his next DUI....whichever comes first.
Would it be too much to expect 90+ wins by year two?
