Washington continues to lose and as they do, they are making what could be deemed ‘minor’ moves, but could end up being significant moves. One such move was to release reserve OF Rob Mackowiak to make room for young P Garrett Mock. In 11 starts this season in Columbus, Mock is 3-2 with an ERA of 3.06. He has struck out 51 in 61 innings. Mock will get his first major league start today against the Giants.
The Nationals also agreed to terms with 6 draft picks.
Left-handed pitchers Ricardo Pecina (eighth round), Tom Milone (10th round) and Joseph Garrett (25th round) and shortstop Jose Lozada (17th round) will be assigned to Class A Vermont, while catcher Chris Solis (27th round) and third baseman Ronnie Labrie (38th round) will report to the Gulf Coast Nationals in Viera, Fla.

The Columbus Clippers (AAA) got some nice pitching from Tankersley, Chris Schroeder and LaVale Speighner to allows just one run as the Clippers defeated Toledo 2-1. Larry Broadway hit his 4th homer of the season and Frank Diaz was 1 for 4 with a double and RBI. Bowie crushed the Harrisburg Senators (AA) yesterday 13-2. Effective Senators reliever Josh Perreault was all but effective yesterday yielding 9 runs, 5 earned, in 2.2 innings. Andrew Lafave and Michael Daniel were each 2 for 4 and Daniel drove in a run. The second game of the Potomac Nationals (A) doubleheader was suspended. The Nats won the first game 8-4. 2007 draft pick Adrain Alaniz move his record to a super impressive 9-0, giving up 3 runs in 6 innings. Alaniz overall is 9-0 with an ERA of 2.62. Offensively, Edgard Baez hit his 8th homer of the year and Mike Martinez added his 2nd to power the Nats. Leonard Davis, Baez, and Francisco Plasencia each had 2 hits. Plasencia is hitting .319 since being promoted from Hagerstown. Martinez and Baez each drove in 3 runs. Martinez is hitting .359 over the past 10 games and has scored 10 runs. Hagerstown defeated Lakewood 5-4 last night. Kyle Gunderson pitched a perfect 9th for the win. 2B Daniel Lyons won the game in the 9th belting his 5th homer of the season. Tom Pahuta hit his 7th homer and went 2 for 4, raising his average to .306.
