Injured and Dismal, your Washington Nationals

by Uncategorized

Hey, at least they scored a run last night.  Big feat for a team shutout in the last two games.
What is even more looming is the fact that Jim Bowden insisted last week that the Nationals bats were about to awaken.  Ummmmm, you simply could not be further from the truth.  You can’t awaken something that isn’t there Jim.
The punchless Nats are now losers of 6 of their last 8, and what is more alarming is they just look uncompetitive lately.   Over the 8 games, the Nationals are averaging a little over 2 runs per game.  With the absence of guys like Nick Johnson and Ryan Zimmerman, there simply is no offense.
Last night was no different.  The Nats managed just one run in the fifth inning, and above all, it came on a ground out.  That is how things are going.  A ground out drives int he Nationals first run in three games.  How pathetic is that?  The Nats offense manged just 6 hits all night.  Meanwhile, starter Odalis Perez gave up 4 runs, 1 actually earned in 5 innings.  Jesus Colome, who was suppose to make his exciting return to the bullpen, instead gave up 2 runs over an inning of work.  That was the story, another rather unexciting and uninspiring night of baseball for a town growing more and more disinterested.
The Nationals now fall to 11 games below .500 at 24-35 and 10.5 games out of first.  This team simply looks worse than last year, after relatively brighter expectations.
