On a night the Washington Nationals get back to winning, the minor league affilitaes all get swept in losses, an exact opposite of yesterday.

Jesus Flores hit his first career grand slam homer in the first inning to set the tone for a 6-4 Washington win over San Diego last night. Flores blast came when he fell behind 1-2 in the pitch count. He finished 2 for 4 with 4 RBIs and lifted his batting average to .344. Flores has not hit safely in 5 of his last 6 games. (Paul Lo Duca and Johnny Estrada who?) Seriously, the front office really needs to begin to think what they want to happen when Lo Duca and Estrada get healthy, because the Nationals are simply not going to get the production they get out of Flores, out of those two. Bottom line is, there is no excuse to either sit as a backup or option Flores to the minors. he is not the future, he is the NOW.
Christian Guzman has another big night with the bat going 3 for 5. The worthy All Star is now hitting .470 in his last 4 games. Felipe Lopez was 2 for 5 while Lastings Milledge extended his hitting streak to 5 games, with a solo homer.
Odalis Perez pitched 6.1 innings of a quality start, yielding 3 runs to earn the win. He is now 2-4 with an ERA of 4.14. Luis Ayala in relief pitched 1.2 scoreless innings,. Ayala, after struggling during a horrific stretch, has not yielding a run in his last 7 appearances. Jon Rauch pitched the 9th to earn his 11th save.
