1B Nick Johnson had an MRI done on the wrist he injured in his last at bat last night. The results are not positive. He is reportedly going to miss 4 to 6 weeks. Johnson has had a string of injuries throughout his career, including most of 2004 and all of 2007. Johnson was hitting .220 but added power to the offense with 5 homers and 20 RBis.
To replace Johnson, the Nationals will turn to Dmitri Young, who is returning form his own injury problems. Young played first base last season with Johnson’s absence and had a remarkable season hitting .320 with 13 home runs and 74 RBIs. Young has been out all of this season and will return to take over first base. Aaron Boone will also likely see time spelling Young at first base. Boone is hitting .319.
