The Washington Nationals sent Matt Chico to the bullpen and added in Mick O’Connor to his starting slot to bolster the fifth starting spot. Afterall, O’Connor posted a 1.96 ERA in 4 starts in Columbus (AAA). O’Connor didn’t fare any better than Chico, getting hammered for 9 runs in 3.1 innings. It was a horrendous performance and a horrendous day for the nationals. The offense managed just 3 hits, two from the bat of Felipe Lopez. Other than that, they never even showed up and suffered a humiliating 11-0 shutout loss to the Florida Marlins. Other than that, not much to write about because yesterday for the Nats just stunk.
Columbus (AAA) fell to Lehigh Valley 2-1 last night. Yurendell de Caster was 2 for 3, hit his third homer with the Clippers, 7th overall on the season. de Caster is hitting .293 since being promoted to Columbus. Steve Shell took the loss for the Clippers even though both runs given up with unearned.
Harrisburg (AA) blasted Erie 9-0 last night behind homers from Devin Ivany and Justin Maxwell. Maxwell was 2 for 4, scored two runs. Maxwell is 6 for 17 with 4 runs, a homer and 3 RBIs in the last 4 games. Ivany was 2 for 4 and drive in 3runs. 3B Bernie Castro was 3 for 4 and spiked his average to .339. Corey Van Allen continues his dominance in minor league ball this season, being promoted to Harrisburg 10 days ago, Van Allen tossed 7 shutout innings, scattering only 2 hits while striking out 8. Van Allen is 2-0 with a 0.71 ERA since being promoted from Potomac where he was 3-0 with an ERA of 0.60. Beltran Perez struckout the side in the ninth.
Potomac (A) fell to Kingston 3-1. Newly promoted Francisco Plasencia is remaining red hot, he was 3 for 3 and is now hitting .500 since being called up from Hagerstown. He is 5 for 10 since his promotion. Matt Rogelstad was 2 for 4 and is hitting a solid .293. Craig Stammen took th loss despite pitching 6 innings of 1 run ball. He is now 0-1 with an ERA of 1.67.
