Caps Interested in Fedorov

The Washington Capitals are beginning the plan on what the roster of the Capitals will look like in 2008/09, which most do not expect substantial changes. The roster is young, vibrant, and is viewed by many as a roster that has a terrific future lying ahead. But the other thing that is well known, it also does need to some veteran leadership, in which they got a jolt at the trade deadline in Sergei Fedorov.
The Capitals are reportedly interested in resigning Fedorov, who was obtained at the deadline, but was in the last year of his contract. The Capitals obviously appreciated the playoff experience Fedorov brought to the Capitals locker room, the calming presence on the power play, and the role he played in mentoring Alexander Ovechkin and Alexander Semin, both fellow Russians serving on a line together with Fedorov at the International Worlds.

“I’m sure if [Fedorov] wants to play, and we can afford it, we’ll figure it out,” majority owner Ted Leonsis said this week.  It is believed that if General Manager George McPhee came to ownership with a deal to keep Fedorov, the move would receive approval.

Both Fedorov and G Cristobal Huet have signaled willingness to stay in Washington for the right deals.   Fedorvo will be more about money while Huet is expected to be seeking a five year deal.    D Mike Green and Huet seems to be on the front burner as far as priority  deals, before dealing with Brooks Laich and Shaone Morrisonn.  Another decision the team will likely face is deciding between Matt Cooke and Matt Bradley, which if it comes down to economic which is likely the case, Bradley will probably get resigned.
