When is a foul not a foul? When its Lebron's foul.

Phil Masturzo/Akron Beacon JournaThat’s not a foul. Nope. Definitely not a foul. And not intentional. No, certainly not that. At least, that’s what you believe if you’re an NBA official, apparently. That flagrant elbow from Lebron James to the face of Andray Blatche earlier in the series didn’t even merit a foul, let alone a flagrant foul. But the NBA office, perhaps ashamed of itself and its officials [ha!] has decided to assess Lebron James with a retroactive flagrant foul for that play. Not that it does the Bullets any good.

James didn’t receive any penalty during the game, but I was just told that he was given a flagrant foul prior to Game 2. James claimed that he didn’t intentionally hit Blatche in the face but apparently the league wasn’t buying it.
The news doesn’t help the Wizards much, especially since they couldn’t turn the flagrant into extra points in the critical first game of this series.
But for an update: This series has now had six technical fouls, three flagrant one penalty fouls, one flagrant two penalty foul, one ejection, a $25,000 fine for a “menacing gesture” by Stevenson and a hip-hop feud.

To tell you the truth, though, the officiating has been better than I thought it would be. Sure, Lebron takes 4 steps every time he moves towards the basket, but I figured any Bullet within 2 feet of Lebron during the 4th quarter would earn a whistle. It’s been more like 12 inches within Lebron. So…better. I guess.
