Just back from a rehab stint, Closer Chad Cordero may be headed back to the disabled list. Cordero left the game last night in the ninth inning, experiencing tightness in the back part of the shoulder, the same area that caused him to go to the DL on Opening Day. Jon Rauch will assume the closer role and earned his 5th save last night, closing out the 6-3 win over Atlanta. Washington is now 10-17 and picked up a game, and despite a poor start, sit just 5.5 games out of the NL East. The Nationals are finally surging a bit, after a horrific start. The Nats have won 4 of their last 5 and 5 of their last 7.
Last nights win was fueled by a slumping Ryan Zimmerman, who appears to have powered his way out of a 2 for 31 slump. Zimmy was 33 for 4, hit his 3rd homer, scored 2 runs and knocked in 3. Lastings Milledge also doubled in 2 runs to lead a the dormant Nationals offense. Starter Tim Redding pitched 6 solid innings and striking out 7. Saul Rivera (1-0) pitched a scoreless 7th inning to pick up the win.
