Deshawn Stevenson has been fined $25,000 for making a “menacing gesture” [a throat-slashing movement] during the Bullets’ game 4 loss in Washington last Sunday. I don’t know what the point of the throat-slashing gesture was. It seems pretty clear to me that Deshawn has lost his cool in this series. Cleveland is up in arms about Deshawn’s punch-that-wasn’t-a-punch to Lebron James’ tender forehead that drew a flagrant 1 foul call. Deshawn needs to cool it and Lebron needs to stop whining.
Lebron Jame says the Bullets cannot come back and win this series. The Bullets say they can. I’m as big a Bullets fan as anyone, but after all the empty talk coming from Washington players before this series began, I don’t know why anyone would take what they have to say seriously. Washington has lost 8 straight playoff games in Cleveland and nobody is going to believe they can win one until they, well, win one. The Bullets need to stop talking, stop hacking, and just play basketball. The sort of ball that got them to the playoffs in the first place.
Washington’s Southeast Division rival Miami Heat lost and gained a head coach yesterday. Pat Riley stepped down and assistant Erik Spoelstra stepped up. That’s odd. I thought Riley quit months ago.

The NBA generally depresses me. I’m a Wizards fan living in Toronto; both teams again bounced right out in the first round. When does it change?
It is certainly depressing that two of the more fun teams to watch probably won’t be moving on to the second round. [Toronto definitely will not.] The Bullets seem trapped in a box and they can’t break out of it — at least not while they’re not at full health.
Of course, the Western Conference is still fun to watch.
