Caron Butler’s hip flexor is still bothering him and he’s a game-time decision for the Cavaliers game. My view: Let him sit. We’re not beating Cleveland with or without Butler. We need our full complement of players to do that and Gil won’t be back until some time next month. If a loss is almost inevitable, just let Caron sit and get healthy.
Antonio Daniels has an injured ankle and it won’t be right for the rest of the season. Coach Eddie Jordan says AD “gimped” through practice yesterday.
Ivan Carter writes about Washington’s now well-known problem with finishing games. This losing streak the team is on has been marked by several failures to close games out in the 4th quarter. The problem, in my opinion, is that the team is lacking its closer. That’s Gil. And if it ain’t Gil, it’s Caron. Without those two, the Bullets just can’t get it done in close games.
At this rate, the Bullets won’t even be able to hold a decent practice:
The number keeps going up. Caron Butler, Antonio Daniels, DeShawn Stevenson, Gilbert Arenas and Etan Thomas all missed practice today.
Jordan expects Butler to miss a seventh straight game with that strained left hip flexor. He said Daniels (bone spurs) is more likely for tomorrow night than is Stevenson (knee), but that he wouldn’t be surprised if Stevenson did play because “he’s a warrior” and hasn’t missed a start in 135 regular season games for the Wizards.
And in case you had any crazy dreams, the Bullets do not plan to make any deals today before the 3 PM trading deadline. The fact is, the Bullets don’t need any new players. What they need is to get their existing roster healthy. Put a healthy Gil and Caron on the team and you’ve got a squad that can win a playoff series or two. Without Gil and Caron, you’ve got a lottery team. It’s that simple.
