Big win by the Bullets last night. After dropping close ones to Phoenix and Golden State [and a few not-so-close ones], Washington halted its 8-game losing streak when All Star Antawn Jamison led the Bullets with 25 points and 9 rebounds, but it was his tip-in off the offensive glass with 0.3 seconds left that decided the game.
“That’s my game,” said a smiling Jamison, who flew directly to New Orleans after the game for the weekend’s all-star activities. “It’s different from all of the other guys in the league but as long as it’s working, and it’s successful, I’m going to continue to do it. Just from being quick off my feet, I was able to go out there, get a hand on the ball and tip it back in. If I would have come back down with it, I would have run out of time.”
It was Washington 51-31 rebounding edge and advantage in second-chance points that kept the poor-shooting [43.5% from the field] in the game. The Bullets were also bolstered by Antonio Daniels, who returned from injury and played 45 minutes.
Enjoy highlights from the game…
Caron Butler has done the only thing he could do — shut himself down for the All Star game. Tuff Juice has missed 6 straight games — Washington lost 5 of them — with a hip flexor injury and he understands that getting healthy is more important than playing a few minutes in an exhibition game. I’m sorry I won’t be able to see him All Star weekend, but it is the right thing to do. He’ll be back.
“I’m feeling better, but it’s still not at the point where I can go out there and play with confidence that I’m not going to hurt it again and have it turn into a long-term problem,” Butler said. “I’m looking at it like, if I can take this week and rest it and work on it with one of the [athletic] trainers, I’ll be good to go when we come back.”
Boston guard Ray Allen will take Butler’s place. Wouldn’t have been my choice, but nobody asked me anyway.
Lots of good NBA trade talk in the Post’s online chat with Michael Lee.
